Please stop wastes ruining this beautiful country

It might not be polite for a foreigner to say that people who live in this country are producing too much waste.

There were two events happened to me before, one was two electricians came to my house and replaced the broken plug. After they finish the work I saw they left the old plug on the table so I asked them if they do recycle for the old plugs or not. They just gave me an unexpected answer “You can throw it to the dustbin.” I still struggled and said “But there are screws and buttons still can be used.” And they replied me “Just throw it away.”
The other event was I used to see people worked around me waste the paper by printing or drawing. Sometimes they just used half or quarter of the paper in one side and threw it away even was a little mistake on the paper.

I really understand why South Africans waste. The reason is because this country has sufficient resource to offer current amount of population. People don’t recognize that one day those advantages will be finished at all. I think this story is not strange to everybody that how Japanese use paper. They firstly write the paper by pencil, once the paper is written fully by pencil they use pen to write afterward, in both sides. As known as Japan is a small country with limited resource and it’s the biggest reason why Japanese treasure every single thing so well.

I still remember when I was working in an aluminum factory in China two year ago. The CEO of the factory asked everybody to print anything which is informal in both sides of the paper. People who print one side with informal document would be fined 100 Yuan.
Referring to the last blog I wrote about why dinosaurs disappeared. It’s obvious that if human-beings keep wasting the earth won’t suffer and that moment the world will be ruined again. I love this beautiful city Cape Town which is one of the top cities for people to live and this county South Africa with thousands of natural views and animals.

But it’s time for you, one of the people live in this country to stop wasting, stop it to ruin your city, your country and your planet.

Dinosaurs killed themselves by farting?

It’s impossible!

I was discussing why dinosaurs dead with my colleagues in K lab. Of course it’s no relative to our courses or business but it’s essentially relative to the earth where we are living. I told them that dinosaurs were killed by the farts they made and people setting around said,

It’s impossible!

Is it impossible? Let’s have a look.

Questionable numbers

The researchers, led by David Wilkinson of Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom, did their best to get an accurate estimate of how much gas these big dinosaurs would have created, but their answers are still just estimates based on multiple assumptions, they warn.

The greenhouse gas methane is a natural byproduct of the digestive process of plant eaters, especially in herbivores called ruminants (like cows and camels). The researchers suspect that like ruminants, sauropods would have harbored methane-producing bacteria in their intestines to help digest these fibrous foods.

There is currently no way to tell what kind of bacteria lived in the digestive systems of dinosaurs, what gasses they produced, or what those digestive systems would have looked like, but Wilkinson thinks they would have produced methane like today's animals.

They used a mathematical model to determine how much gas these plant-eating giants would have eaten. They extended data on methane production by modern mammals, based on size, up into the reaches of the sauropods.

In their calculations the researchers used middle-of-the-road numbers: 10 sauropods, each weighing 20,000 pounds (9,071 kilograms), could have roamed 1 square kilometer of lush Mesozoic habitats. "We've taken a middle-ground value," Wilkinson said. "We tried to be reasonably conservative."

They found that these 10 sauropods would have contributed 7.6 tons (6.9 tonnes) of methane every year. Expanding this number to cover the amount of land estimated to be hospitable habitat for these animals (about half the land on Earth at the time), the researchers end up with more than 550 million tons (500 million tonnes) of methane produced every year.

Edison' comments

It’s impossible! If people keep polluting into environment it’s impossible for us to live any longer. Instead of dinosaur, I would like to say human-beings are killed by themselves by driving, traveling and consuming. You don’t need to believe or research how did dinosaur die because they had already gone for thousands year. But what we should do and think about is how to reduce the waste we make so that we can leave a healthy earth to our children.

Introduction to Edison and my blog

Hi everybody, my name is Wei Ding. You can call me Edison. I am from the city named Foshan in south of China which is a very famous kung fu city. I came to Cape Town last year August and studied as a international student since February. I have been living in this most beautiful city in the world for around one year. I like the environment and people here which both are nice and make me feel comfortable.

This is the picture my friend took for me in Paarl during the summer time. When people saw this picture they said I looked like Psy the one who sung Gangnam Style. I have no idea.

I used to use blog when I was about fourteen years old. I used blog to record my stories and emotions but I stopped using it long long time ago and they were all written by Chinese so I have to create a new blog now.

In my opinion people like to share their experiences about music, sport, films etc.which are very interesting and relaxed. Not like the others, I decide to research and share something about human-beings and disasters. The reason why i came up this idea is from a conversation with my friend talking about why dinosaurs disappeared and earth ruined thousands year ago.

I know my blog would be comfortable or happy to be read but what I want to achieve is remind people to think about safety and sustainability.

Edison' comments

There were times of shocking earthquakes happened in China during the last couple years. It’s as known as the Wenchuan earthquake that killed 68,636 and injured 374,176 people in China five years ago as of September 22, 2008. It was a horrible disaster that the huge dragon from the east-the country named China had fallen into sadness and painfulness. We begged that those kinds of disasters will never come again to hurt this country. Unfortunately, it happened again this year.
Somebody said that those disasters were revenges from the nature of earth. To be Honest, China has sacrificed its environment and people’s benefits to exchange the rapid growth of economy and society. The environments in the south of China are getting worse and worse. My presents told me that they could swim in the riven near my school in my hometown, but at present that riven has already became a black smelly and toxic riven by a sauce manufactory. So somebody gloated that Chinese were revenged by the earth and dead in the disasters.

Have you ever thought about that the feeling of the people who die innocently? In case the people who dead in the earthquake are revenged by the earth, why they are deserved to die by others faults? And the victims in Pine Town crash, they were all killed by a over-speed track and unskillful driver. Can anybody answer this question?

To the people who still alive, the only thing I would like to say to you is we should treasure the people we love and treasure the time we are still holding in our hands.

Where's the Heaven in Pinetown

It makes me so sad by Pine town Traffic accident in Durban.

The scene of the fatal car accident involving multiple vehicles on 6 September in Pinetown.

I can still remember I was having a meeting with my viral video group in UCT pub last week Thursday afternoon. One of our colleagues who comes from Durban showed us a YouTube Video from his moble phone. I was shocking down and immediately phoned my uncle who works alone in Durban. The robot where the accident took place was the only way which he must drive through twice every day. Fortunately he moved out about one month ago but I still worried about him. When he picked the phone I felt so thankful that he wasn’t there.

When the meeting was finish, I went back home, watched that videos again of another vision and did some research afterward. Every time I watched that video it just shocked me again and again. I also showed this video to my friend, my manager and the customers where I met from my job and all of them just freaked out and felt so upset. One old customer who has a long relation ship with us could walk out of our shop by being scared of that accident. Two small accidents accrued to her his year so I remind her to please drive safely and stop being rude when driving.

This crash made me start considering to questions, one is how can I prevent myself or my family from that accident? And the other question is imagine your are the family of the victim in that accident, what’s your feeling after that happened?
For the first question I have came up a thought that every time I stop in the robot, when it turns green I shall keep my eyes open on left and right and don’t care about how loud the guy hook behind me.

At present I am still struggling for the second question. Who they should blame to? The driver who couldn’t break the truck? The driver who was driving the taxi and carrying others? The people who made that truck? The people who didn’t make any rule to prevent big truck to drive into that rapid road? But I know that really make me so sad and that’s why I phoned my uncle right after I saw the video to make sure he is safe.

For you and your family, please do drive safely.

A short video is attached.
